Blue badge holders can park in all Tewkesbury pay and display car parks for an unlimited period (see map). Blue badge holders with a time clock badge can park on double yellow lines in Church Street if there are not yellow flashings on the kerb for up to a maximum of three hours.

Entrance

There is one level access entrance on Church Street. The door will open automatically if the assistance button is pressed. The door leads into the Tourist Information Centre and Heritage Centre reception.

Getting around

Inside the heritage centre there are lifts and stairs offering access to all floors.

All staircases have handrails. There are 2 lifts; 1 at the back of the building to take visitors from the ground floor to the first floor and another in the front section of the building from the first to the second floor. The lifts are suitable for 1 wheelchair and 1 person, both lifts have handrails, braille floor indicators and visual floor numbers. The heritage centre is spread across 3 floors: ground, first and second.

Due to the age of the building some of the floor surfaces may be uneven and some of the stairs are narrow.

The displays

Our portable media players have a small screen with visual images, which also show subtitles and have induction loop settings.

Guided tours of the heritage centre

Visitor centre staff can lead tours around the building but these must be booked in advance. Tours can be catered to the needs of individual groups and can incorporate tactile elements.

Seating

There is a seat on the first floor near to the staircase. On the first floor there is stool seating in the exhibition space.

Toilets

There are no public toilets in the building. The nearest accessible toilet is located at the Abbey refectory.

Fire alarms

The fire alarms give an audio bell warning and visual flashing lights. The lift cannot be used in the event of a fire. There is assistance for people who would be unable to exit the building and fire safe refuge points to await evacuation. If you will need assistance to exit the building in the event of a fire alarm please tell a member of staff.

Dogs

We welcome assistance dogs. Staff can provide a bowl of water if required.

Induction loop

There is an induction loop at the information desk on the ground floor and in the first floor front exhibition room.

If there is anything we can do to assist you in your visit please contact us, we will be happy to help you.
